Method
Build the glasses
- Fill each glass with ice so it’s well-chilled before you add the syrup. Aim for a full layer of ice to keep the layered look as it drinks.
- Pour elderberry syrup into the bottom of each glass in a steady pour. Watch it pool at the base for that deep plum start.
- Slowly pour the lemonade over the ice so the syrup swirls and settles into a gradient. Pour gently to preserve the layered effect.
Finish and serve
- Top each glass with lemon slices and a sprig of fresh mint for garnish. Place them where they’ll be visible right after pouring.
- Give the drink a quick stir before sipping to blend the flavors. Stir once or twice until the gradient looks evenly mixed but still vibrant.
Notes
Pro tip: pour the lemonade slowly over the ice for the prettiest gradient swirl. For best flavor, use chilled lemonade and serve immediately; leftovers keep in the refrigerator up to 1 day, but the ice will melt—stir and drink cold. Freezing isn’t recommended because the texture can get watery after thawing. If you want a lower-sugar option, use reduced-sugar lemonade and check that your elderberry syrup is made with less sugar.
