Ingredients

Spiced apple crisp
  • 4 cup sliced apples Use a mix of tart and sweet apples.
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup cold butter, cubed Keep cold for a crumbly topping.
  • 0.25 cup caramel sauce For drizzling.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Bake the apples
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and spread the sliced apples in a baking dish.
  2. Bake the apples for 35-40 minutes until the crumble is golden and the filling is bubbling.
Make the oat crumble
  1. Mix the old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture turns crumbly.
  3. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples before baking.
  4. Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving warm.

Notes

Pro tip: use tart-and-sweet apple varieties so the filling stays bright and not overly jammy. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; reheat at 350°F until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended because the crisp topping softens. For a dairy swap, use a 1:1 cold vegan butter substitute to keep the topping crumbly.
