Ingredients

Purple gelatin base
  • 1 box (3 oz) grape gelatin Use unflavored gelatin mix in a box for consistent purple color.
  • 1 cup boiling water Add to dissolve the gelatin completely.
  • 0.5 cup vodka Stir in after dissolving for adult jello shots.
  • 0.5 cup cold water Stir in to help it set cleanly and evenly.
  • 20 count small plastic cups Use small disposable cups for individual servings.

Method

Dissolve the gelatin
  1. Pour boiling water into a heat-safe container and whisk in the grape gelatin until fully dissolved, with no visible powder (about 1 minute of stirring).
  2. Continue whisking until the mixture looks smooth and glossy, then stop stirring.
Flavor and pour
  1. Stir in the vodka and cold water until the mixture is evenly combined and uniformly purple (about 30 seconds).
  2. Pour the mixture into the small plastic cups, leaving a little headspace at the top for clean layers.
Chill and serve
  1. Chill the cups in the refrigerator for 4 hours until fully set, with the surface firm and jiggly when gently tapped (keep cold at about 4°C/40°F).
  2. Serve cold straight from the refrigerator for the best wobble and shine.

Notes

For the cleanest, shinier set, chill until fully firm before moving the cups. Store covered in the fridge up to 3 days. Freezing is not recommended because the texture can become grainy after thawing. For a non-alcoholic option, replace the vodka with an equal amount of cold water or grape juice (no alcohol).
