Ingredients

Red wine
  • 1 bottle red wine
Fruit and flavor
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 cup black grapes
  • 0.25 cup sugar
  • 0.5 cup brandy
To serve
  • 2 cups lemon-lime soda
  • 1 Orange slices

Method

Combine the base
  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves (no heat needed). Aim for a uniform color with no visible sugar granules.
Add the fruit
  1. Add the blackberries, black grapes, and Orange slices to the pitcher and gently stir so the fruit is evenly distributed. Let the mixture look deep purple with fruit suspended throughout.
Chill
  1. Chill the sangria for 3 hours in the refrigerator. Keep it covered so flavors infuse while the fruit stays fresh-looking.
Finish with soda
  1. Just before serving, pour in the lemon-lime soda and stir gently once. The surface should look lightly fizzy with small bubbles.
Serve
  1. Serve the sangria over ice in glasses. Make sure each glass has fruit pieces for the signature bubbly blackberry finish.

Notes

Pro tip: Add the lemon-lime soda right before serving so it stays fizzy. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 2 days (keep soda separate if you want to preserve carbonation). Freezing is not recommended due to texture changes in the fruit and soda. For a lower-sugar option, use a sugar substitute that dissolves (like a 1:1 baking sweetener) in the base.
