Season and layer the slow cooker
- Season the pork shoulder generously with brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place the sliced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker and set the pork on top.
- Pour in the chicken broth.
Cook low and slow
- Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours, or high for 5-6 hours, until the pork shreds easily.
Shred and glaze
- Shred the pork directly in the slow cooker, discarding excess fat.
- Stir in the BBQ sauce and apple cider vinegar before serving.
