Method
 

Make berry flag
  1. Layer the halved strawberries and blueberries with whipped cream in rows on a tray to form a flag pattern, then keep cold until serving.
Cut star watermelon
  1. Cut star-shaped watermelon using a star-shaped cookie cutter, and also cut the remaining watermelon into cubes for extra topping.
Make red-white-blue skewers
  1. Alternate strawberry, marshmallow, and blueberry on skewers for berry skewers, spacing the pieces evenly.
Grill corn and ribs or hot dogs
  1. Grill the corn on the cob over direct heat for about 8–12 minutes, turning as needed, until golden with light char.
Grill the main
  1. Grill BBQ ribs or hot dogs over direct heat for about 10–15 minutes, turning to brown evenly until heated through and charred.
Assemble the spread
  1. Arrange star watermelon, berry flag, red-white-blue skewers, grilled corn, and BBQ ribs or hot dogs on a festive spread for a star-spangled presentation.

Notes

Pro tip: prep all no-cook items (berry flag, skewers, and watermelon) the night before, then cover and refrigerate; grill the corn and ribs or hot dogs just before assembling. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 2 days; freeze is not recommended for the whipped-cream component.
